Isn't it funny how you can go for a period of time and not see someone and then spend the day with them and be able to pick up right where you left off as if you have never been apart one day!!?? That is true friendship! The heart knows just how to connect with that person! I had the wonderful opportunity to spend the day with one of my best friends yesterday. At one time in our lives we were together constantly and then as the years progressed and marriage and family obligations came into play, time slips by and all of a sudden you realize, "wow, I have not seen her in a year." However, a day is planned and as her car pulls into my driveway and we head out on our adventure for the day, we know exactly what to talk about....conversation was never a dull moment for either of us! What a blessing to experience a true friendship that God created so many years ago! I am so thankful to have a friend like this! Our day started with breakfast out and then fighting torential rainstorm to attend the Southern Christmas Show. I don't think we missed one single thing as we ventured through each aisle. Even after time apart, we still can pick out things for each other that we know the other will "simply love" or is "just the right thing"...... (*smiling*). The Christmas music filled the room and the decorations were amazing. This certainly starts off the Christmas season and boost the spirits as well. Nothing was wrong, no problems existed....it was just a fun day with a special friend! At one time we sat on a bench with a drink and snack in hand. We both love to "people watch" and as people ventured by our corner of the world for that moment, we discussed everything from their shoes to their earrings....and shared many chuckles and some of the styles we saw! Five hours later (yes, 5 hours later) we knew it was time to venture back into the rain and leave all the twinkling lights behind. As we fought our way through rain and wind and hiked to where the car was parked we both decided we were not ready for our day to be over with quite yet......so, as we both agreed, a "Target trip" was a necessity! What is so funny is that so many things we did during this day are things we do each year when we share this day together. It is almost somewhat of a tradition and we don't want to break it.....even down to the little place we like to enjoy lunch. This year it was not quite the same as last but we just HAD to eat there because "it's just what we do every year"! We strolled side by side pushing carts through Target. You would think we would run out of things to talk about......oh, but no, not us! We laughed until we almost cried at times! So, lets see, another hour passes and finally decide we need to start heading home....but first, a quick trip through the drive through at Chik-Fil-A......and then we became hysterical with laughter because we fought a battle with the honey mustard container.....getting the darn thing opened! Ok, so now we are at the point of "silliness" because we are tired, yet have had the best of day! Conversations continue all the way home.....another person in the car would not have had an opportunity to say much because we even caught ourselves interrupting each other to tell one of our tales! When the day ended and all I could see where the rear lights of her car as she drove away, I thanked God for my friend and for the time we share together! We say we will not wait a year to get together again and I hope that we can make that happen. However, even if it is next year at this time that we share another day, I know we will pick right up where we left off and the day will be a blessed one!~~ Until Later
